Some
of the best hunting on Molokai is available on the lands of Molokai Ranch.
However, the fees for hunts have become so astronomical that only the
very wealthy or the very determined are now able
to hunt there. For a mere $650/day, you can hunt
Feral Pigs,
Feral Goats,
Black Buck,
Aoudad Sheep,
Eland Antelope,
and
Axis
Deer on the 54,000 acre premises. Oh, wait, there's more!
Game fees are $1000 for each of the animals, except that the trophy fee
(certain animals of a certain size) is $1500! Game bird hunting
for
pheasant,
quail,
partridge,
francolin,
wild turkey, and
dove, is also
offered during regular state hunting season, at $150/day.
Public
hunting lands on Molokai are open to anyone with a valid state hunting
license. Wild goats and pigs can be hunted in various hunting units
year-round on weekends and state holidays, except when bird hunting is
in effect. Hunting game birds is open on public lands from the first
Saturday in November to the third Sunday in January. A special dove
season runs late January through March.
