THE CEDARS GOLF COURSE -
OUR COMMENTS
Maintenance: The Cedars does
feature some evidence of subpar maintenance - there are brown,
thin spots on the fairways, and on the tee boxes. Many
of the fairways look like they could really use some
overseeding and definitely a new irrigation system. The
course just underwent a management change, so we'll see if
this is addressed.
Scenery: The course is heavily treed
- mostly Cedars of course - and winds in and around Salmon
Creek, Duck Ponds, with many bridges. There are a few
spots where the course is bordered by nice homes, but only a
few - mostly it's isolated. There are wooded areas
followed by open areas, all with geese, ducks, and Great Blue
Herons watching on. Quite pleasant and relaxing.
Fun: This is perhaps our favorite
course we've played in the area - the many creeks and water
hazards keep it interesting - you have to actually strategize
quite a lot as to where to lay up and where to drive.
The 9th hole is especially interesting - it crosses a creek,
dog-legs just before a marsh, crosses the creek again, then
immediately launches upward to the green, probably a good 100
feet above. You have a smile on your face when you
leave.
Safety: The course is designed well,
so that the fairways are not facing each other, you don't
cross any streets to speak of, and you don't have to worry
about being hit by other people's stray shots. Should be
an accident-free day.
Staff: The staff has always been
courteous to us so far - haven't talked with them much yet,
but so far so good. I did ask about golf gloves, but the
lady at the counter wasn't too much help...the pro shop was
almost out of gloves, and we have yet to go there when they
have real scorecards - they are using photocopies.
Design: A well-designed course.
The grounds are nice and peaceful, the natural wetlands are a
nice touch. The fairways aren't facing each other - most
of the course you can't even see the other golfers. The
walks between greens are moderate and scenic. Some paths
are asphalt - others are gravel.
Value: This is a
professional-length course that is very fun to play where you
can get a round for just $20 in off-season, or with one of
their coupons from the
Entertainment Book
or the
Golf Card. We feel like
we got our money's worth out of this course each time we play.
Other Comments: Due to the
extensive water on this course, expect to lose several balls
during a day if you're not that good. Come prepared. |
