GREEN MOUNTAIN GOLF
COURSE - OUR COMMENTS
Maintenance: The course is
very well maintained - green fairways, very few brown spots
even in the late summer. This could be a tribute to it's
Scenery: Straight, Flat, Open
fairways run together by long, unattractive gravel paths.
Heavy brush lines the exterior, little water to add to the
scenery. Bonneville Power Lines run through the middle
of the course and gravel areas with maintenance sheds dot the
Fun: Pretty boring course - very
little water, few bunkers, long, straight, flat fairways with
little variety. If you like to drive, though, this is a
good course for it. We've decided not to play here
anymore - it's just not fun enough.
Safety: Expect plenty of balls to
whizz by your head as you walk between holes. The
fairways are close together and often facing each other - one
mis-hit and you're nailed.
Staff: Most of the staff seems
OK, but we've had problems with the Marshall, who seems not to
have a firm grasp on how to manage the schedule. One
time he got on us to hurry up time and time again, when we
were waiting on the group ahead of us and the group behind us
was a full tee behind. He hung out by us and made it so
we couldn't relax, and kept giving one member of our group a
hard time for no reason. We complained about him, but
the front desk guys just tried to blame it on members of our
Design: Green Mountain Golf Course
is perhaps the most poorly designed golf courses we've played
at. The 1st and 10th holes are located as far as
possible from the clubhouse, instead of closest to the
clubhouse like normal. Long, straight, flat fairways run
close together and opposite, creating a safety hazard, with
inexplicably long walks between holes. You'll be tired
by the end of 9 holes after walking this one.
Value: We don't enjoy this
course very much, but it is quite cheap for a full course -
with a coupon you can play nine holes for just $11 or $18 for
18 holes. That's why it's always quite popular. Plus,
it's close to east Vancouver.
Other Comments: Expect to lose
a lot of balls on this course if you're not very good.
The fairways are lined with heavy brush, especially blackberry
brambles, and the fences are in tight. If you mis-hit,
you're not likely to find your ball. The back and
front 9 are rotated depending on which day you play.
